With age comes the inevitable situation of gum recession. All the years of brushing and eating erodes away at your gums and exposes the sensitive roots of your gums. To counter-act all the sensitivity that may arise from exposed roots is to have a gum graft. If you’re looking for experts in gum graft surgery and you live near Gilbert, AZ – call us today for a consultation today.
Gingival graft is needed in the presence of significant gum recession in the mouth. It’s important to have a sufficient width of gum (attached gingiva) around the base of the teeth/implants (at the gumline) such that it minimized the probability of food particles and bacteria lodging between the gum and teeth. Gum recession happens when there is insufficient attached gingival (pink gum) food or bacteria become lodged under the gumline. This may result in further recession of the gum or a localized infection (gum abscesses). It’s also not possible to cover fillings with gingival (gum) tissue, if fillings exist along the edge of the gingiva (gum) the filling will be removed.
The purpose of this procedure is to create an adequate band (width) of attached gum tissue so as to prevent the likelihood of further gum recession.
This is a surgical procedure involving the removal of a thin strip from the roof of your mouth, alongside the upper teeth, and transplanting it to the area of significant gum recession. There, it can be placed at the base of the remaining gum or it can be placed so as to partially cover the tooth root/implant surface exposed by the recession. If the latter is attempted.
Risks related to gingival grafting surgery might include but are not limited to post-surgical infection, bleeding, swelling, pain, facial discoloration, transient, but on occasion, tooth sensitivity to hot or cold.
The proposed surgery will be successful in eradicating pockets, infections or further bone loss or recession. It is anticipated (hoped) that the surgery will provide benefit in improving the condition and produce healing which will enhance the possibility of longer retention of teeth/implants by reducing the likelihood of further gum recession in the treated area(s) but due to individual patient differences, one cannot predict the absolute certainty of success. Therefore, there exists the risk of failure.
During surgery, unforeseen conditions may be discovered which call for a modification or change from the anticipated surgery plan. These may include but are not limited to discontinuing the procedures prior to completion of all the surgery originally outlined. Performance of such additional or alternative procedures may be deemed necessary in the best judgment of the treating doctor.
Excessive smoking and/or alcohol intake may affect healing and may limit the successful outcome of the surgery. It is very important to report for appointments following the surgery as suggested so that the healing may be monitored and so that the doctor can evaluate and report on the outcome of surgery upon completion of healing.

Mouths cheer with delight when Dr. Mansoor treats recessed gums! There are many ways this simple procedure can enhance your quality of life. Common advantages include:
A gum shortage can ruin an otherwise pretty smile. Teeth may appear too long. Addressing this condition can make you beam from ear to ear.
A ripple effect can be felt throughout the mouth. Gum fitness is closely connected to other aspects of oral health. Safeguarding this part of your mouth helps prevent further damage, decay and tooth loss.
Rows of teeth can look lopsided without enough tissue. This process evens out the appearance of the gum line.
Affected teeth may be overexposed. Certain foods and beverages can cause discomfort. Temperatures of foods and drinks can also lead to irritation. Gingiva, or gum, replacement acts as a defense.
This procedure may only take a little bit of your time, but the positive impact can last for years. Advantages may even continue for the rest of your life.
If recession is deep enough, tooth roots may be exposed. Added tissue comes to the rescue as it covers these areas. Inflammation is reduced with expert surgery. Plaque is less likely to get under the area and cause problems. Recession ends.
Many insurance companies will cover a percentage if done for health reasons, not cosmetic. Each insurance company and its policies differ. Guidelines change frequently. It’s best to find out ahead of time.
